age 85, of Wauwatosa, died peacefully, with his family at his side, on March 6, 2013. He was born on March 5, 1928 in Milwaukee, and married Beatrice (nee Venzke), on September 25, 1954. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Gertrude Engelking, and his brother, Gilbert and sister-in-law Ruth.Roy is survived by Bea, his wife of 58 years, daughter, Ellen (Jerome Heer), and sons, Robert (Paula), James (Annette), Thomas (Susanne), Michael (Larisa)and eight grandchildren: Jane Heer; Melissa and Rebecca; Lauren; Evan; and Darya, Zoya and David. Also survived by his sister Elaine and brother-in-law, Donald Smith, and many loving nieces and nephews.Roy was a graduate of Milwaukee Boys’ Tech and Marquette University. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army and continued his service to others through his involvement in the Kiwanis Club, and, with his sons, Boy Scout Troop 21. Roy worked over 35 years for Wisconsin Bell/AT & T, until his retirement in 1986. After completing a successful career, he became an active volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House and the Zilber Family Hospice. He also enjoyed attending Elderhostel and spending several months each year in Lake Havasu, AZ. Roy was a lifelong learner and his many interests included reading, theater, travel, fishing, Shakespeare, and fixing things. He was a member of Christ King Parish in Wauwatosa. Visitation will be held, Tuesday, March 19th, 2013, from 10-12 noon, at Christ King Parish, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Private entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials to the Educational Foundation of Wauwatosa and the Wauwatosa Public Library Foundation are appreciated.The family is deeply grateful to Dr. Gerard Parent and Nancy; Dr. Elizabeth Marriott; the doctors and nurses of St. Luke’s Neuro ICU; and the Luther Manor staff, especially the Health Care Center nurses and the hospice team, who cared for Roy with compassion and love .
