Daniel Thomas “Danny” Kulik, 71, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, after a courageous journey with a chronic illness.

Born on August 11, 1954, to Russell Kulik Sr. and Joyce (Scharl) Kulik, Danny was raised in Waukesha County, where he built a life centered on kindness, laughter, and genuine friendships. Through his mother, his family lineage traces to Gregory and Anna Maria Umhoefer, German immigrants who built the historic Umhoefer Log Cabin in 1856, now preserved at Old Falls Village in Menomonee Falls.

Danny had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome. He truly never met a stranger—only someone he hadn’t talked to yet. Whether he had known someone for years or had just met them moments before, he greeted everyone with a smile, a story, or a joke. He loved joking around, teasing those around him, making people laugh, and bringing joy to everyday moments. His quick wit, warm heart, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Danny began his career with Sysco before spending many years at Pritzlaff Wholesale Meats, where he became known for much more than delivering products—he delivered friendship. Danny loved visiting with his customers, often spending so much time talking that he occasionally needed a reminder to continue his route. To him, every stop was another opportunity to brighten someone’s day and make a new friend.

One of Danny’s greatest joys was spending time with his brother, Randy. They loved climbing into the car with no destination in mind, exploring Wisconsin’s back roads, visiting family and friends, searching for treasures at antique stores and garage sales, and discovering local restaurants together. Some of their best memories were made on roads with no destination at all. For Danny and Randy, it was never about where they were going—it was simply about being together.

Danny also found a second family at many of his favorite local restaurants, especially Spring City Restaurant in Pewaukee, the former Zorba’s in Waukesha, and the former Gyros West in Waukesha. He wasn’t simply a customer; he was a friend. It wasn’t only the food that kept him coming back—it was the conversations, laughter, and familiar faces that made those places feel like home.

Above all else, Danny treasured his family and friends. He enjoyed the simple things in life: a good conversation, sharing a laugh, telling stories, taking a drive, and making others feel valued. His kindness, generosity, and ability to bring a smile to those around him are gifts his loved ones will carry with them forever.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Kulik Sr. and Joyce (Scharl) Kulik; his beloved grandmother, Catherine (Umhoefer) Scharl; and his brother-in-law, Michael Schwartz.

He is lovingly survived by his siblings, Bonnie Schwartz, Russell Kulik Jr., Deborah (John) Penning, and Randy Kulik. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephew: Melanie (Brian) Schwab, Jennifer Penning (Dan), Stephanie Dayton, Heather Kulik, Jason (Mitchell) Penning, and Angie (Matt) Winchell. He also leaves behind many cherished great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, special neighbors, and extended family members who will forever treasure his memory.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Heritage Lake Country, Brighton Hospice, and the physicians and staff at ProHealth Care for the exceptional care, comfort, and support they provided throughout Danny’s journey. A special thank you is extended to Susanne, whose years of dedicated nursing care, kindness, and friendship brought Danny comfort, dignity, and reassurance, and to Leslie and her family, whose friendship, kindness, and continued presence in Danny’s life meant so much to him. Their compassion, friendship, and unwavering support will always hold a special place in the hearts of Danny’s family.

A celebration of Danny’s life will be held Friday July 31, 2026, at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home W250 N6505 Hwy 164 in Sussex from 10am until time of service at 11:30am. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages everyone to honor Danny’s memory by sharing a laugh, striking up a conversation with someone new, lending a helping hand, taking the long way home, or simply spending time with the people you love.

Danny’s greatest gift wasn’t something he owned—it was the way he made people feel. He had a rare ability to make others laugh, feel welcome, and know they mattered. Though he will be deeply missed, his kindness, humor, and genuine love for people will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
