Dr. Mark Richard Carey, aged 62, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 19, 2026. Mark was born in Waterloo, Iowa to Richard E. and Corinne E. Carey. He grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin and was a talented athlete, playing football and running track in high school.
He graduated from Marquette University in 1986, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. Mark was part of the Marquette Track team and played club rugby. He later attended Michigan State University, receiving a dual MD-MBA degree. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In 2006, Mark began his medical practice with Nephrology Associates of Waukesha, devotedly serving his patients across Southeast Wisconsin for the past 20 years.
Mark met his wife Lisa in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1990 and after five years of adventures, they married in 1995. They moved throughout Michigan, to Pittsburgh, finally landing in Hartland, WI. Since 2006, they’ve enjoyed exploring the Midwest with their three daughters and two dogs.
Mark was a lifelong learner, always on the search for new experiences and knowledge. Mark was also a voracious reader. He enjoyed filling his home with books on every topic. His greatest joy was traveling with his family, showing them the world, and engaging in scintillating conversation with anyone who would listen. Having been to all 50 states and 36 different countries, he was eager to immerse himself in different cultures and histories.
Mark was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartland. He rediscovered his Christian faith in 2023 and made his commitment to Our Savior Jesus Christ in 2025. His love of Jesus was of greatest importance to him. A highlight of his faith was a recent medical mission to Bolivia where he and fellow practitioners served more than 2,000 people over four days.
Mark is preceded in death by his grandparents Edmund and Alta Carey of Mazomanie, WI and Edwin and Elda Krueger of Freeport, IL. He is survived by his loving wife Lisa (Lussier) Carey of Hartland; daughter Elsa and fiancé James Hennessy of New York, NY; daughter Sophia and husband Musab Aldawod of Milwaukee; daughter Amelia of New York, NY; and newborn granddaughter Ida Aldawod.
