John ”Jack” Hollenstein passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 11th leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and quiet generosity that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jack was a loving husband to Sue Anne (nee Nick), father of Jennifer (Clint) Cagle, and Michael (Cindy) Hollenstein, grandfather of Alexander (Maya) Cagle, Elizabeth (Vinnie) Voudrie, Abigail, Edie and Norah Hollenstein, and great grandfather of Sierra Batres Cagle.
Jack was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin to Esther (nee Walter) and Frank Hollenstein. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Jerome, Joan, and Walter Hollenstein
Jack graduated from Marquette University High School and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He spent his entire career in the airline industry, retiring from Northwest Airlines in 1999.
Jack shared more than 57 beautiful years with his wife and best friend, Sue. Their marriage was built on unwavering love, laughter, partnership, and the kind of companionship that inspired all who witnessed it. Together they built a home filled with warmth, humility, and care for others.
Jack was a man who always put others before himself. Whether offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or a perfectly timed joke delivered with his signature wry sense of humor, he made people feel seen, valued, and loved. His kindness was never loud or showy — it was steady, genuine, and present in the countless small ways he cared for those around him.
He found great joy and peace in gardening. His garden reflected much of who he was: thoughtful, generous, and quietly extraordinary. Family and friends will forever remember the pride he took in sharing what he grew, as well as the calm wisdom and contentment he found among the flowers and soil.
Though deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the lessons he taught through his actions: to love fully, give freely, laugh often, and care deeply for others.
A life so rooted in love leaves a lasting bloom in all of us.
