Terry Colwell died peacefully in his sleep at home at the age of 82.
Terry was born in Barrow-in-Furness, England, son of Christopher and Mary Colwell. After a career as a ship builder, at the age of 25 he moved with his wife Pauline (age 24) and their three children to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Except for returning to England for a year in 1972, the family made their permanent home in America.
Shortly after settling in Milwaukee, Terry entered the Trade of a Union Millwright, a job that he loved and stayed in until his retirement.
Through owning a bar called “Toff’s Pub” in the early 80’s, the Millwright union, and his neighborhood, he built his “American Family” out of many dear friends.
He became a member of the Henry L. Palmer Masonic Lodge #301 in Milwaukee in the early 90’s, and rose through the Ranks becoming a Past Master.
Terry also ran a Mister Softee ice cream truck in England, and a popcorn truck (that he built himself) in the 1970’s.
He loved to repair cars, watch and study wild birds and he especially “loved” to hunt for bargains online on Craig’s List.
Terry really loved all music and could recite hundreds of lyrics, he spent many hours singing karaoke (He was known to those who loved him as “Karaoke King”, Elvis was his specialty) in his party basement and entertained many English visitors and they had lot’s of fun around their pool. Later in life, he even started to study Spanish.
Of course his greatest accomplishment was his family and spending quality time with them, which he truly cherished. Terry so loved and was devoted to caring for his lovely wife.
Terry is preceded in death by his eldest brother Chris and his son Brendan. He is survived by his loving wife Pauline of 63 years, his sister Ann, brothers Ged (Andrea), Mike (Beverly), his daughter Elaine (Brian), his son Shane (Sandy). Grandkids, Brittany, Ryan, Evan, Clair, Michael (Liz), Kyle (Amanda) and Craig (Emily), and many loved great grand children.
Visitation will be held at the Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home 10121 W. North Ave, Wauwatosa, WI from 12 noon to 2:00pm. Service to follow at the funeral home from 2:00pm to 3:00pm (will also be live-streamed via Zoom).
