Anthony "Tony" Steve Bareta
June 18, 1929 - August 2, 2023

Anthony "Tony" Steve Bareta, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born in Milwaukee to immigrant parents, Fabian and Josephine (Marovich) Bareta. The youngest of five children, he graduated from North Division High School. He attended the Layton School of Art and Design before being drafted into the Army to serve in a MASH unit in Korea. Upon return, he finished his studies at UW-Madison receiving his degree in Landscape Architecture. After working for the City of Milwaukee, he pursued a master’s degree in Urban Planning at the University of Illinois. For 20 years he worked in Urban Planning before embarking on a new career in Commercial Real Estate, where he worked until his retirement in December of last year.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Charlene (nee Gathard) Bareta, daughters Michelle (TJ) Alfuth and Lisette (John) Lewandowski, grandchildren Vicki (Michael) Flannery, John (Erin) Alfuth, Eric Alfuth and Brenna Lewandowski, six great grandchildren, Dylan Good, Sophia, Conor and Michael Flannery, TJ and Teagan Alfuth, and many nieces and nephews as well as family in Croatia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fabian and Josephine, siblings and their spouses, Mary (Elmer) Hafran, Rose (Paul) Sontag, Robert (Fran) Bareta, Dr. John (Berniece) (Katherin Shaleck) Bareta, nieces and nephews, Claire Bareta, Judy Murn, Jim Bareta, Joanne Nevins and Peter Bareta.

Services will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023, with visitation beginning at 10 AM followed by mass at 11:30 AM with Military Honors following mass. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 PM at The Waters of Pewaukee. Tony’s family would like to thank the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans’ Administration Medical Center, especially the Cardiac Care Unit.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested in his name to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, the Catholic Charities of South Carolina, and the Salvation Army.
