George Bemis of Oconomowoc passed away February 15, 2014 at the age of 82 years. He was born on November 15, 1931 to Dr. Milfred and Tannie Bemis.
George served in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Duxbury Bay. He was a machinist for Allegheny (Good) Steel in Milwaukee. He worked for St. John’s Military Academy after retirement. George was a long time member of the American Legion Post 91 and was in the Color Guard. George was a 1949 graduate of Random Lake High School.
He was the loving husband of Pauline, devoted father of David, Bob, and Peggy (Jerry) David, and stepfather of Cara (Steve) Boyer. Proud grandfather of Jackson and Jenna David and Alec and Carli Boyer. Brother of John (the late Gail) Bemis, Marjory (David) Lyford, Clarence (Diane) Bemis, and Carol Lex. Brother-in-law of Alice Bemis and Glenn Zachow. He was preceded in death by his brother Edward and sister Rose. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends and his beloved cat “Tigger”.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until the time of service at 2 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 210 Pleasant St, Oconomowoc. Memorials to St. Paul’s new organ fund or the Watertown Humane Society are appreciated.
