Lester Edwin (Ed) White, 99, of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2026, in Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 29, 1927, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Phillip Robert and Coralie White. Their family relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he grew up.
Ed joined the military after completing high school, and served as a Sergeant in the Army during WWII. He then attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. It was there that Ed met and married his loving wife of 77 years, Meta Lorraine Marryatt, on August 29, 1949.
An avid and accomplished baseball player at Illinois Wesleyan, Ed was offered a position as an outfielder with the Cincinnati Reds national league baseball team. He chose another path, however, and followed a very successful career in sales management for Central Soya agribusiness company. After retiring from Central Soya, Ed became a realtor for Stark Company Realtors.
Ed is survived by his wife, Lorraine, his children Kerry (Don) Butzlaff, Kimberly (Edward) Witek, and Kevin White. He is further survived by his sister, Sandra Jewell, and grandchildren, Chad Butzlaff, Courtney (Shawn) Pucylowski, and Kyle (Megan) Witek, and six great-grandchildren.
Ed was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Middleton.
Ed and Lorraine moved to Azura Assisted Living in Mukwonago, Wisconsin, just weeks ago.
Private family services were held for Ed.
