Verna Emma Sitkiewitz (Duveneck) of Mukwonago, WI, entered peacefully into heaven on September 17th, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Verna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose life was a reflection of strength grace and unwavering faith in her Savior Jesus Christ. Born on August 3rd, 1942, in Manitowoc, WI, to the late Carl and Malinda Duveneck. She was baptized into Christ on September 20, 1942, at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, WI, where she also was confirmed into the faith on March 25, 1956.
She was a 1960 graduate of Mishicot High School; she raised her family and then went on to manage various medical offices in the Manitowoc and Two Rivers area. There she was beloved by the families she served and respected by her co-workers for her hard work and dedication.
On November 30th ,1963, she married Donald G Sitkiewitz, and they shared almost 50 years together full of love and adventure. Verna was an avid tennis player in the Manitowoc community and was a member of the area USTA 4.5 team that participated in state and national tournaments. She often reminisced fondly of the wonderful memories and lifelong friendships made during that time.
Her retirement allowed her to move to Mukwonago to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was her role as a grandmother. She poured boundless love, wisdom, and devotion into her three cherished grandchildren: Austin, Connor and Emma. To them she was a constant source of comfort, gentle guide, and their biggest cheerleader. Her legacy of warmth, laughter, and unconditional love will live on forever in their hearts.
Verna was a woman of deep and abiding faith, who found strength and purpose in her relationship with God. She was a long time and active member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mukwonago, where she served faithfully in both word and action. She was always among the first to volunteer when needed, which was apparent as she served on the landscaping, church banner, funeral, new member and cleaning committees, as well as being a member of the bell choir. She loved her church family dearly and especially looked forward to her weekly Mahjong game.
She adored her Packers since the Lombardi and Starr years and rarely missed a Brewer game. This season has been a source of delight for her, and she always texted her family “how sweet it is,” after each win.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Anonich, her son-in-law Paul Anonich, her grandchildren, Austin Anonich, Connor Anonich, and Emma Anonich, her son, Steven Sitkiewitz, her brothers, Alan Duveneck, and Kenneth Duveneck, her sisters-in-law Barbara Duveneck, Rita Duveneck, Judy Hall, and Caryn Sitkiewitz, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sitkiewitz, her parents Carl and Malinda Duveneck, brother, Carl Duveneck, sister-in-law Betty Duveneck, brother-in-law Joel Sitkiewitz and her dear Godson, Kenneth Duveneck Jr.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever cherished.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4: 7-8.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that donations be made to St Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mukwonago Building Fund.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church (410 W. Veterans Way, Mukwonago) from 9:00 AM unti the time of the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM.
