Terrence “Terry” L. Maskel
Of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 86.
Terry was born on May 16, 1940, in Streator, Illinois, the son of the late Earl and Ann Maskel. He graduated from Streator High School in 1958 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Marquette University.
Terry proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 3rd Infantry Division. During his military service, he a certified sharpshooter and served as a Medic in Europe and was honorably discharged with commendations in recognition of his dedicated service. Following his time in the Army, Terry built a successful career in the manufacturing industry, where he worked for many years as a Global Logistics Leader.
Above all else, Terry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, coach, and friend. He was universally recognized as one of the kindest, most humble, and genuinely caring people anyone could know. His quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and selfless nature left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Terry’s greatest joy was his family. As his children were growing up, he never missed an opportunity to support them, faithfully attending school programs, sporting events, concerts, and other activities. Whether sitting in the stands, cheering from the sidelines, or offering words of encouragement, Terry was always there. He dedicated countless hours to coaching youth sports, sharing his love of competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship with generations of young athletes. Over the years, he coached soccer, basketball, baseball, and golf, making a positive impact on countless children and families.
Terry had a lifelong passion for golf. The game brought him great enjoyment, whether he was playing with friends, competing, teaching others, or simply enjoying a beautiful day on the course. Golf reflected many of the qualities he embodied throughout his life—patience, humility, perseverance, and respect for others.
A lifelong Chicago Bears fan, Terry proudly stood his ground as the lone holdout in a Wisconsin family filled with Green Bay Packers supporters. Despite years of good-natured persuasion, relentless teasing, and countless invitations to see the error of his ways, he never abandoned his beloved Bears. His family never succeeded in converting him from "the dark side", but Terry accepted their misguided Packers devotion with the same kindness, patience, and humility that defined his life. Since his family is writing this obituary we can simply say……GO PACK!
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Margaret Maskel, of 59 years; his children, John (Terri) Maskel of Fort Myers, Florida, Molly (Doug) Craney of St. Charles, Illinois, Tom (Jennifer) Maskel of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, and Katie (Patrick) Donigain of Pingree Grove, Illinois; and his beloved grandchildren, Mackenzie (Jacob) Crabtree, Jack Craney, Mike Maskel, Mia Maskel, Emily Donigan, Sam Donigan, and Calli Maskel.
Terry is further survived by his sister, Sharon Ferguson of Streator, Illinois, as well as many other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ann Maskel and brother Earl.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home (930 Main St., Mukwonago) from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. A Low Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius V Roman Catholic Church (425 Grand Ave., Mukwonago). Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, where Military Honors will be rendered.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." Terry’s legacy lives on in the family he loved, the young athletes he coached, the friends he encouraged, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to others.
