Barbara Ann Kellaher, 64, of Mequon, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Richard Kellaher for 38 years, devoted mother of Allison Kellaher, Brooke Stratman (Ted), and Lauren Eliopoulos (George), and proud grandmother of Evie, William, Myles, Charlie, Ellie, Nora, and Thomas. Nothing brought Barb greater joy than spending time with her family, cheering on her children and grandchildren, and creating lifelong memories together.
She is also survived by her loving mother, Nora (Mike Montgomery) Montgomery; her sisters, Judy Corke and Kathryn Rush; and her brother, Billy Corke. She was preceded in death by her father, William Corke.
To hundreds of players, coaches, staff members, and fans, Barb was affectionately known as the “Mother of Marquette Basketball.”
For twenty years, Barbara served as the Director of Basketball Administration for the Marquette University men’s basketball program. During her distinguished career, she worked alongside four head coaches—Tom Crean, Buzz Williams, Steve Wojciechowski, and Shaka Smart—helping build one of the nation’s most respected programs.
While her title reflected administration, Barb’s true gift was caring for people. She traveled with the team, coordinated countless details behind the scenes, welcomed recruits and their families, and made every player feel valued. Whether it was having room keys organized and waiting as the team arrived at a hotel, making sure travel ran flawlessly, ordering a New York bus driver to “slow down” or arranging smiley faces on pancakes to brighten a player’s morning, Barb’s personal touch mixed with some periodic grit transformed ordinary moments into lasting memories.
Former players often returned years later not only to see their coaches, but to see Barb. She remembered birthdays, celebrated achievements, comforted disappointments, and treated generations of student-athletes as if they were members of her own family. And this Marquette family enjoyed tremendous success! In 2023, she was honored to accept an invitation to the enshrinement of Dwyane Wade into the NBA Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.
Yet of all the roles she filled throughout her life, Barbara was proudest of being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her kindness was constant, her faith unwavering, her laughter contagious, and her love unconditional. She possessed a rare ability to make every person she encountered feel important and welcomed.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at Foxtown Station located at 6209 W Mequon Rd in Mequon, WI 53092 at 4:00pm on Saturday, June 27th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in Barbara’s memory to either Specialspaces.org or checks made out to the Milwaukee Central City Foundation & those checks mailed to the attention of Father Tim Kitzke, 1716 N Humboldt Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53202.
Barbara’s final chapter revealed the same courage, grace, and selflessness that defined her entire life. While cancer may have affected Barbara’s body, it never diminished her spirit. She demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of adversity and leaves behind an enduring example of how to live & die with dignity, hope, and grace. She lived with a servant’s heart, a generous spirit, and a deep love for family, friends, and the Marquette community.
