Schmandt, Susan E. (nee Rossman)
Jesus said: I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live even though they die. John 11:25
On the morning of June 1, 2026, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Susan Ellen Schmandt, was called home to be with the Lord. She lived a life rooted in her baptismal faith, devoted to Christ, and guided by the teachings of the Holy Bible. She died surrounded by family, convinced of the certain hope of heaven that she now enjoys.
Susan was a woman of unwavering faith, whose love for the Lord shone through every aspect of her life. She loved her church (Bethlehem Lutheran) and served her Savior there for years as banner maker, Quilter, handbell choir member and through countless hours of humble service. She truly found joy in prayer, strength in scripture, and peace in the promises of eternal life. She shared her faith through kindness, compassion, and an unyielding trust in God’s plan. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4
Susan was born to Harvey and Daisy Rossmann on August 6th, 1944. She was baptized as a child of God at St. John's Lutheran church in Lannon. She married the love of her life, Egon Arno Schmandt on February 15th, 1964. Together they raised three children; Veronica Lynn, Wesley Allan, and Erich Richard, in a family devoted to the Lord, teaching them to love, to serve, and to trust in Him always.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Daisy Rossmann, her sisters and their husbands, Patricia (Jack) Balon, Becky (Dale) Schneider. She is survived by her husband Egon, her children Roni (Dave) Andrew, Wes (Sarah) and Erich (Jeanine), her sister Sharon (the late Dan) Wiesner; her grandchildren Jack, Rachael, Michaya, Dylan, Bryson, Jacob, Evan and Erika; and nieces and nephews Debbie, Bobbie, Brian, Dan, Scott, John and Jeff. While we grieve her passing, we find solace in the hope of Christ’s resurrection. We are confident that Susan now rests in the arms of the Savior, free from pain and sorrow, rejoicing in the presence of the Almighty. We are also assured that we will one day be reunited in God’s eternal kingdom.
A visitation and celebration of eternal life will be held at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, N84 W15252 Menomonee Ave. in Menomonee Falls, on Monday June 29, 2026 from 2pm-4:30pm, with a memorial service at 5pm, where we will gather to honor Susan’s memory and rejoice in the promise of everlasting life with her Savior, Jesus.
Memorials to Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, or to Martin Luther College would be greatly appreciated.
