Gerald David “Jerry” Zwieg, age 80, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, passed away on February 5, 2026 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin surrounded by family and friends.
Jerry was born on May 24, 1945, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, to Arnold and Esther (Wolter) Zwieg. He spent his entire life in the Oconomowoc area, where he started his family and career.
Jerry was a skilled carpenter by trade. He began his career with H.F. Mallow and Son, where he honed the fundamentals of his craft. He later worked for CG Schmidt, where he advanced to the role of superintendent, overseeing many large and complex construction projects throughout his career. Known for being mechanically savvy, hands‑on, and ambitious, Jerry took great pride in doing things the right way and seeing a job through.
Outside of work, Jerry had many passions. He especially enjoyed working on cars, with a particular love for Corvettes, as well as woodworking, fishing, and spending time at the lake. Okauchee Lake held a special place in his heart, and “lake life” was where he truly found peace and happiness.
He honorably served his country as a member of the National Guard, an experience that reflected his deep sense of duty and responsibility.
Jerry will be remembered as hardworking, faithful, dependable and someone who saw the potential in anything he came across. His legacy lives on in the family he raised, the skills he passed down, and the many projects he completed with pride, as well as those that he did not complete.
Jerry was married to Susan “Sue” (Spannuth) Zwieg, the love of his life, who survives him. Married for almost 54 years, Sue was dedicated to caring for Jerry during the last years of his life.
He is survived by his children and their families: Scott (Amy) Zwieg and Bill (Sarah) Zwieg. Jerry was a proud grandfather to Lilin, John, and Alexis, all of whom brought him great joy.
He is also survived by his sister, Sue Bartel, brother, Jim (Pauline) Zwieg, brothers-in-law, Gary (Karen) Gregory and Dan (Marla) Gregory, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date.
