George Edward Alt
January 19, 1940 - January 15, 2026

George Alt spent his entire career as an investment broker with UBS. His clients and coworkers respected his capabilities, knowledge and the advice and management he provided.

He loved sailing Lake Michigan, and his final boat was a Tartan 37 which was a great joy to him. He loved curling and was a past president of the Milwaukee Curling Club. Golf was also a passion of George’s, especially because of the friends he played with and traveled to courses with. George was an all-around man of his time.

George was a long time resident of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, then Glendale and for a brief time, a resident at Newcastle in Mequon, which he dearly loved.

He was born on January 19, 1940, the son of Gifford Alt and Margaret Alt who long proceeded him in death. George has one sister, Mary Jane Wilson of Evanston, Illinois, who he cherished.

George had a loving relationship with his two daughters, Sarah Alt Woerner of Alamo, CA and Ingrid Alt of Durango, CO. He had four grandsons, Kristian Woerner, Kieran Woerner, Liam Woerner and Charlie Woerner, and one granddaughter Makayla Bogan.

His wife of 32 years, Ruth Alt, added three step children, Mary Kay Smith, Michael Wilhelm, and Terri Wilhelm, who feel blessed to have George as their stepfather. The families blended well together and shared time at the family home in Door County.

George had many good friends and is remembered as a gentle soul with a great sense of humor. A truly special man who was a blessing to all.

George passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of George’s favorite charities, Habitat for Humanity.
