Kenneth Hugh Read passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 88.
Born on February 28, 1937, Ken was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his four sons: Reik (Constance) Read, Sanderson “Andy” (Suzy) Read, Adam (Katie) Read, and Christopher “Kit” (Joanna) Read; and by his eight cherished grandchildren: Sander and Reagan Read, Annie and Mimi Read, Jack and Charlie Read, and Jake and Elliott Read. He is further survived by his sisters Pepper Read McCullough and Sherry Davis Uricchio, and his brothers Richard Read and Timothy Read .
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Hugh Read, Sr. and Marye Priest Read, and by his sister, Marnie Read Tuttle.
Ken attended Milwaukee Country Day School (now University School of Milwaukee) before attending Stanford University. He later completed graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin. In 1966, he married Susie Sanderson, and together they raised four sons, building a family that remained the center of his life.
Known affectionately as “Bubbles,” Ken loved life and was a devoted father—ever present, endlessly supportive, and always willing to cook for a crowd. His fried chicken was legendary, and his home was one of warmth, laughter, and open doors. He could often be found driving from event to event, cheering on his boys.
Ken had a deep love of nature and treasured his time at Lake Julia, a place he fondly called “God’s country,” as well as many cherished stays on Sanibel Island, Florida. These places reflected his appreciation for simplicity, beauty, and quiet reflection.
In 1970, he launched Kenrick Corporation with his brothers Rick and Tim. Together, they built several highly recognizable neighborhoods featuring more than 500 homes throughout Mequon and River Hills, leaving a lasting imprint on the community. Later in life, Ken returned to hands-on craftsmanship, designing and carving custom wooden lamps—each one thoughtfully made and uniquely personal.
A service celebrating Ken’s life will be in February with a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to University School of Milwaukee.
