John Joseph “Jay” Bruns, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud veteran, was born to Eternal Life on December 17, 2025, in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He was 88 years old.
Born on March 19, 1937, in St. Louis, Missouri, John was the son of George and Gertrude Bruns. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong sense of duty and service that would define his life’s work and personal commitments.
John served honorably in the United States Coast Guard from 1955 to 1959. Assigned to the USCG Taney as a Radioman Second Class, he played a vital role in communications during his time aboard one of the most storied ships in Coast Guard history. His military service laid the foundation for a lifelong dedication to public safety and civic responsibility.
Following his military service, John embarked on a distinguished career with the Wisconsin State Patrol. Over the course of 28 years as a State Trooper, he upheld the law with integrity and professionalism. After retiring from the State Patrol, he continued his commitment to public service by working with the U.S. Marshals as part of their court security team.
John’s Catholic faith was central to his life. Deeply involved in his parish community, he served faithfully as a Lector, commentator, and Eucharistic Minister during Mass. His presence at church was marked by reverence and dedication - a reflection of his enduring spiritual convictions.
He is lovingly remembered by Judith, his wife of 62 years; their children Jeffrey Bruns (Joli), Stephanie Murray (Michael), Christopher Bruns, Margaret Supa (Mark), and daughter-in-law Beth Bruns; grandchildren Hannah (Mitch), Nicholas, Braydon (Nini), Jacob, Shea (Ben), Theodore, Christian, Kathryn; great-grandchildren Chiara, Vincent, and Collette; sister Clare Servais (Paul); and sister-in-law Barb Johnson. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
