Orlean (Chiglo) Strand, age 88, of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Orlean was born on October 12, 1937, in Whalan, Minnesota, to Peter Sr. and Myrtle (Sveen) Chiglo.  She grew up in a large close-knit family and carried those strong family values throughout her life.

On June 7, 1958, Orlean married the love of her life, Richard Strand.   Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith.  They were blessed with two children, Kelly Strand-Mendez and the late Scott Strand, who were the pride and joy of her life.

Orlean worked as a church secretary at Elm Grove Methodist Church for many years, where she was known for her kindness, dedication, and warm spirit.  She also held various other secretarial positions throughout her career, always bringing professionalism and care to her work.

Those who knew Orlean will remember her for her gentle heart, spunk, unwavering faith, and her beautiful smile that could light up any room. She was a talented dancer who loved moving to all kinds of music, and her joy for dancing reflected her lively spirit and zest for life. She had a gift for making others feel seen and loved, and her warmth touched everyone around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Strand-Mendez; her sisters Mary Hanson and Sandra Solberg; her special family friend Cindy Thorson; sisters-in-law   Phyllis & Margaret & Darlene Chiglo; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Strand; her son, Scott Strand; her parents, Peter Sr and Myrtle Chiglo; and her brothers Maynard (Gloria), Nester, Stanley, Roger, Peter Jr., Jerry and sister Pearl (Charles) Murphy.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Legacy Hospice for their exceptional care, compassion and support during Orlean’s final days - especially to her nurse Sabria, who came in on her day off to be by Orlean’s side.  Sabria shared that “Orlean, she and I have been on this journey way too long for me not to see it through to the end.”  Her kindness and dedication brought great comfort and peace in Orlean’s final moments.

A celebration of Life is being planned for June 2026, in Whalan, Minnesota, honoring Orlean’s 88 years of love, laughter, and grace. Service times will be announced at a later date.

Orlean’s legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to shine through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
