Remembering Laura “Laurie” Olson — A Life of Quiet Strength, Creativity, and Devotion

Laura Lorene “Laurie” Olson, of Mukwonago, WI, passed away on September 22, 2025—the first day of fall, one of her favorite seasons—at the age of 69. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who lived a life filled with love, creativity, and quiet resilience.

Laurie spent many years working at GE, where she built lasting friendships and took great pride in her work before retiring. Her life outside of work was filled with the things she loved most—decorating her yard with care and creativity, doting on her beloved dogs and cats, and being a constant source of support to her family.

She cherished time with her children and grandchildren and always made space for those who needed her—whether it was late-night advice, a listening ear, a heartfelt conversation, or just a weather update. She was always up for a good chat that could last for hours. Laurie gave of herself freely and selflessly, with no expectation in return.

She had an artist’s spirit and a maker’s hands. Laurie was a gifted sketcher, known for her eye for beauty and her thoughtful, handmade creations. She found joy in knitting and crocheting blankets for her loved ones—each stitch a quiet act of love—and in expressing herself through artistic projects that brightened the lives of those around her. She especially loved Christmas, delighting in decorating and giving gifts that brought warmth and meaning to the season.

Her smile could light up a room, and her laugh was infectious. Laurie didn’t seek attention, but she left a lasting impact through her compassion, her creativity, and her steady presence in the lives of those she loved.

She leaves behind three children, Jason Bausch, Jeremy (Ann) Bausch, and Rachel (Van) Pretorius, and six grandchildren who adored her: Diana, Steven, Zachary, Natalie, Elle, and Axel. Her sisters, Mary (Tom Cromos) Olson and Karen Colleran, survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Barbara Olson; her sister, Debbie (Olson) Rivas; her brother, Mike Olson; and her nephew, Jacob Flagg.

Laurie’s legacy lives on in the compassion she modeled, the traditions she nurtured, and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A gathering to honor Laurie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 27, at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home (930 Main St., Mukwonago). Visitation begins at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM.
