Dave married Linda Zielinski on September 9, 1972. Survivors include their children, Ryan (Nicole) Derus, Nick (Jackie Buggs) Derus. He loved the outdoors and was always busy caring for ‘his’ yard or being on the water. He was a talented woodworker and handyman, and was able to create beautiful pieces of furniture in his woodworking shop.
Dave also loved hiking and traveling and vacationed in many countries of the world with Linda.

He joined the Army in 1971 and was an MP for his years in the military.
His 30+ year employment with Harley-Davidson was something he enjoyed, along with having and riding motorcycles for years.
A memorial service will be held in the future.
