Albert James “Jim” Baka, 81, of Mequon, WI, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim married Barbara (née Leitheiser) in 1966, and together they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. He was the proud father of Cathy (Steve) O’Brien and Stephanie (Mike) Landgraf, and a devoted “Papa” to his beloved grandchildren: Claire, Hannah, and Amelia O’Brien, and Jack and Sam Landgraf. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and friends.
Born on October 18, 1943, in Waterloo, WI, Jim graduated from high school in Chicago, IL, and went on to earn both a Bachelor of Science and a MBA in Business/Finance from DePaul University. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran.
Jim built a 50-year career in banking/finances and in his later years, focused on turning around struggling businesses and boosting performance. He held senior leadership positions in both family-owned enterprises and global financial services firms. He also shared his business expertise as an adjunct professor at Concordia University and Mount Mary University.
A faithful member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Mequon, Jim drew strength, comfort, and purpose from his Christian faith. He was also an avid golfer and a proud member of North Shore Country Club for over 40 years. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends, gardening, and woodworking.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Jim and his loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, followed immediately by a funeral service. Coffee and snacks will follow the service at the church.
