Julia Hazel Miller (née Noon), age 101, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1924 in Watertown, WI to Nina and Clarence Noon. She began her education at St. Bernard's School in Watertown. After her family moved to Mapleton, WI she completed grade school at Brown St. School and then Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee. She worked at Carnation Company in Oconomowoc as a secretary. She married James A. Miller on August 28, 1946 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Mapleton and became the head secretary, head chef, child production manager, household supervisor, CEO, and CFO of Miller Productions. Once all her children were in school she returned to the workforce at Joseph Lorenz Construction Company where she worked until her retirement. She was a loyal volunteer at AngelsGrace Hospice. She remained a life-long resident of Mapleton and member of St. Catherine's.
Hazel was a stay at home mom, raising 11 children. She loved to bake and was best known for her huge batches of bread, apple pies, and kringles. She loved to sing. She would sing us awake and sing us to sleep at night. She especially loved to sing in the church choir. She could make so much out of very simple things like treasure hunts, picnics in the back woods, and foraging for wild flowers along the fence line. She loved being out on the deck listening to the birds and watching the flowers grow. She treasured her time spent with her siblings and their families. There were always many shared stories and much laughter.
Hazel leaves behind a family that will miss her greatly: her children Cathy Eastman (Ted Hartsough), Jim, Tom (Leigh-Anne), Dan (Meg), Mary (Mark) Kimball, Ellen (Jerry) O'Hearn, Julie (Ron) Ruege, Veronica (Rex) Morely, Anne Huston, Joe, and daughter-in-law Donna Miller, 13 grandchildren, and 7 great grandkids. In addition, she leaves behind her 3 sisters Mary Armstrong, Rose Ann Scharpf, and Judy Rebholz, and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 54 years James Miller, son Charles, grandson Andy Eastman, and brothers Joe, Robert, Vernon, Jack, and infant brother Charles Eugene.
Hazel's door was always open to anyone who needed a smile or a warm meal. She accepted everyone where they were at, passing no judgment. She gave so much and asked for so little in return.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to our dear neighbor and friend, Marge Brunner, who was a constant support. We also wish to thank the Pro Health Home Hospice Angels.
Services will be held at the St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Mapleton on May 10th. Visitation will be from 10 until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12 PM Noon. A luncheon will be served in the church hall.
Memorials may be made to AngelsGrace Hospice or to St. Catherine's parish in Mapleton. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree and sing a song to someone you love.
