Germantown, WI – George J Zimmerman, 76, Germantown, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Frontida of Germantown Assisted Living under the care of Preceptor Home Health and Hospice.

George was born in Baraboo, WI on December 27, 1946, to George and Janette (Hammer) Zimmerman. He graduated from Baraboo High School in 1965. He furthered his education at Madison Business College with a degree in Accounting in 1970. He had a long career in Financial Management in the paper manufacturing industry throughout the state of Wisconsin and a short time in Maine. He last held a Controller position with a billiard cue manufacturer in Menomonee Falls, WI prior to his long-awaited retirement.

George married Marite (Brakmanis) on June 1, 1968, in Madison, WI. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in June. George was always an active church member and held many leadership roles throughout the years. He enjoyed coaching his three boys in baseball and enjoyed playing in the church fast pitch softball league and later in slow pitch leagues in Wausau. His favorite place to relax was up north at the family property on the Wisconsin River and most recently at the cottage in St. Germain. Up north gave him time to hike, bike, kayak and sit around the campfire with family and friends, taking in the sounds of nature and solving the world’s problems. When not up north, George passed the time away by reading, gardening, working on numerous puzzles, and watching his favorite Wisconsin sports teams. His family is thankful for his cooking passion and his gift of “George’s Award-Winning Chili” recipe.

George is survived by his wife, Marite; his sons Robert (Nicole) Zimmerman of Oregon, WI, Eric (Jill) Zimmerman of Milwaukee, WI and Shaun Zimmerman of St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren Olivia, Zakery and Zane; siblings Don Zimmerman of Baraboo, Jane (Jim McGovern) Zimmerman of Baraboo and Marcia (Steve) Pischke of Custer, SD; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Rosie Zimmerman and nephew Jonathan Zimmerman.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church, W172 N11187 Division Road, Germantown, WI. Visitation will be at 11:00am with service to follow at 12:00pm.
