Gregory J. Ohme
September 25, 1948 - March 31, 2023

Gregory James Ohme Sr., 74, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, passed away on March 31, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Greg was born on September 25, 1948, to Richard and Caroline Ohme in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the fourth of seven children. After he graduated from Catholic Memorial Highschool in 1966, he was drafted by the United States Army. Greg served in the Infantry during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1971.

Greg worked at Chilstrom Erecting where he had a successful career that lasted 44 years. He contributed to many major projects that shaped the city of Milwaukee and surrounding areas such as the Bradley Center, Hoan Bridge, and the Milwaukee Deep Tunnel Project. Greg will be remembered for his strong work ethic, leadership, commitment to his trade, and fairness to all who had the opportunity to work with him.

In 2011, Greg retired as the General Manager of Chilstrom and spent his time keeping busy with family and friends. He enjoyed many hobbies; however, he truly loved golf. Greg took pride in his ability to hit the long ball off the tee, and he played golf until the end of the 2022 season. Outside of sports, Greg had a passion for woodwork and carpentry. His talent was impressive and appreciated. Among all of his woodwork, the remodeled basement with a custom-built bar stood out as a family favorite. Here many memories were carved out over conversations, laughter, and an Old-Fashioned (or two). More memories were created while driving through the United States trying to find the perfect campsite - which led to the perfect campfire. Greg will be remembered for his love of family.

Although quiet and humble, Greg deserves to be remembered for his family and faith. He performed more services for his family and the church than anyone will ever know. Greg was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a fervent Catholic. He lived as Saint Joseph recommended, “We are born to love, we live to love, and we will die to love still more.” Saint Joseph

Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Caroline Ohme and his sister, Virginia Kopack.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years; Marilyn (Bodus); his children, Elizabeth (Dale) Labecki, Juliann (Andrew) Kerr, Gregory Jr. (Kelly), David (Stephanie), Daniel (Courtney), Katharine (Arlen) Korpal, and Richard (Andrea); 17 grandchildren; his siblings, Carolyn (John) True, Dorothy (Robert) Emery, Richard (Patricia), Larry Kopack spouse of Ginny, Joseph (Pegeen), and Thomas.
