Dr. Garland W. Yarborough
February 26, 1949 - January 29, 2023

Dr. Garland W. Yarborough of Mequon, 73, arrived in Heaven on Sunday, January 29th, 2023. He was born in Salina, OK, to Ida Bell and GW Yarborough.

He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in physiology. His dream was to always become a physician, and he worked diligently to achieve that goal. He graduated from Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC in 1973.

Following medical school, he completed his internship residency at Northwestern in Chicago. He then completed a gastroenterology fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

He and his wife moved to Whitefish Bay in 1980, where they raised their five children, before moving to Mequon in 2014.

Since 1980, his great passion has been practicing medicine and caring for his patients. He was a great baseball dad to his three sons and enjoyed attending swim meets and horseback riding events for his two daughters.

He enjoyed feeding the birds, sharing ice cream with his dogs, and walking in the woods. He had a tremendous heart for rescuing any and all animals. He delighted in shooting off fireworks, as well as enjoying time on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Collecting baseball cards was also a great hobby of his. He completed a decades-long goal by writing and publishing his autobiography in 2022.

He is also the author of a paper comparing the findings of rigid proctoscopes with that of fiberoptic flexible sigmoidoscopy. These findings gave credence to the benefit of colonoscopy in screening individuals for colon cancer. He is the author and co-author of several papers studying the effects of different drugs on coronary circulation in dogs.

He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty years, Linda, along with five children - Garland Yarborough, Jr, Linda Hope Luvaas, Brandon Yarborough, Zach Yarborough, and Ashleigh Mixon. He is also survived by nine wonderful grandchildren who will all miss him greatly.

We all Love you!

A private family service will be held at a later date.
