My sympathy to the Carpenter family. As a new teacher at BDHS I learned a lot from Jim and he was so very supportive of me. Many of the things I embraced in teaching came from watching Jim teach. He was a good man all around and I greatly respected his work, professional, & personal ethics.

Coach Carp was a great man who would check off every box that would describe an amazing person. He was a great mentor to me as a young coach and teacher. I was blessed to later have him as a friend. A great example of someone who was put on this Earth to help others. Coach Carp connected with everyone no matter what color they were or gender. He was indeed a legendary presence in Brown Deer. Any role, any time, any organization, Coach Carp was always ready to help out. He treated everyone as an equal and genuinely cared about all the people he came in contact with. As I had children of my own, it was great to see what an amazing father was like as I witness first hand his interactions with his children. His marriage was important to him and I know that he truly loved his partner in life, Mrs. Carpenter. After we coached a football game, we would go out to dinner and talk about the game, but must importantly talk about life and focusing on the future. Lots of talking from Coach and lots of listening on my part. What a great resource he was for me as a young adult still figuring life out. His smile was amazing and he made you feel like you were an important part of his life. He cared so much about all of us. A hard worker and never complained about life. He just showed up everyday and made sure he did his part. Always there to extend the helping hand so you could keep up. It was a blessing to have learned so many lessons, but must importantly share laughs and hugs. I also loved getting to know Mrs. Carpenter as well as the kids. Coach Carp, you will be missed and I look forward to another embrace from you with that great smile when we meet again.

I am so sorry for the loss of a great man and teacher. He taught me in the 70's and my daughter in the 90's. He was my favorite teacher. I discovered my love of history from him.
