David L. Olson
December 7, 1930 - September 29, 2022

Captain David Lee Olson found eternal peace on September 29th at home amongst family that loved and cared for him.  Dearest stepfather to Wendy Roehr (Bill), Deb Snow (Dennis Jahnke), Mary Simon and Jeff Simon (Patty).  Father to David Olson (Margaret), Doug Olson (Patti), and Patty Olson. Dave grew up in Oconto working with his folks Ole and Anna Olson on a mink farm and then with his dad Ole as a commercial fisherman.  Perhaps this is here he found his love of water. At age 19 he began sailing with Interlake Steamship and then the Ford Company advancing in his career over the next 40+ years from deckhand to the rank of Captain.  He enjoyed being the Captain and loved the responsibility that came with the position. He took mom and other family members on some of the trips and we loved to hear the stories they told when they returned. Dave loved family gatherings; the cookouts were one of his favorites. When asked if he wanted a burger or brat, he would say either but no garlic and no onions.  He loved taking Mom for car rides, especially to Culvers for a turtle sundae, he loved those turtle sundaes till the end of his days.  Dave had a habit of checking the vehicle fluids when he thought you weren’t looking to ensure safe travels -thank you for doing that! He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed videotaping them, he taped them being good and sometimes being mischievous and he taught some of them to drive. He even took them to the movies and would sometimes fall asleep and snore embarrassing them to pieces, we laughed about it the other day while reminiscing. But most of all he loved the extra time he had when he retired so he could spend it with his beloved Olivemae (mom).  Dave would pack up the motor home and off they would go on some new adventure, traveling around and stopping at campsites along the way to rest. In most recent years he found pleasure watching television and doting on mom, the two were inseparable.  When mom died July 1st, he was heartbroken, and we knew he would soon follow his true love/soul mate to the life beyond to be with her. Dave was always a loving, patient, and kind man.  What an honor to have had Dave, our second dad, in our lives – We love you! Rest in peace Captain David Olson, you will truly be missed.
