December 30, 1940 - June 11, 2022

David Alfred Novak, of Lac du Flambeau and formerly of Milwaukee Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 in Lac du Flambeau.

He was born on December 30, 1940 in Milwaukee Wisconsin to Philomen and Frances Therese (Nee Wiora) Novak.  He graduated from Don Bosco High school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1958 and Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a degree in civil engineering in 1977.  He married the love of his life, Cheryl (Musial) Novak on July 21, 1962 and they would have celebrated their 60 wedding Anniversary next month.

He was very proud of his over 40 years of service to the city and county of Milwaukee as a professional engineer. He worked in the public works department at the city of Milwaukee from 1962-2000.  He was the Director of the Public Works at Milwaukee County from 2000-2003 and with the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission from 2003-2010

David loved the lake home that he designed and helped build on Fence Lake and has recently been enjoying creating a beautiful flower garden around the brick walkways he had designed.  His faithful chocolate lab, Hunter, was his always by his side while he worked on the yard.  He doted on his grandchildren and nothing pleased him more than when they came to visit at the lake. He made every one of their events that he could.  He loved reading, gardening, building model railroads, watching history documentaries, telling stories, sharing his knowledge of so many things and a good brandy Old Fashioned sweet.

David is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Cheryl (Nee Musial) Novak, his two children, Deanna (Peter) Ament, David Allen (Maureen) Novak, his grandchildren, Emily Ament, Elizabeth Ament, Joseph Ament, Megan Novak, Maya Novak, Amanda Mozejewski, Alyssa Mozejewski, and his sisters Jeanne Wridt and Marie Fons.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 10:00 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Parish, 734 Glenview Ave. Wauwatosa, WI 53213.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to “The American Heart Association” or “The Labrador Connection” which is a lab rescue for Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
