Born to eternal life May 22, 2022 at the age of 84. Born to life February 28, 1938 in Indianapolis, IN to Ruth and Joseph Smith. He was the fourth youngest of 12 children and is survived by his youngest sister Judy Lowery of Brownsburg, IN, as well as his wife Margot Smith of Milwaukee, many nieces and nephews in Indiana, Fox Lake, IL and Trier, Germany.

After a brief stint in the Navy he joined the Air Force and was sent to Bitburg, Germany where he met his wife Margot. They were married in 1960 in Trier, Germany. Before returning to Germany John spent a year in Alaska, then was transferred to Berlin, Germany for one year and then two years to Stuttgart, Germany.

He returned to the states, Tampa, FL and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in March of 1970. John and Margot moved to Milwaukee in 1970 to be close to their friends Dick and Judy Clark.

John worked as a telephone installer repairman and retired in 1999. He was kind, loving, compassionate, always joking, making people feel good and loved to garden.
