Margaret Mary Veronica Murphy Rose
January 12, 1929 - November 10, 2021

Our beloved Peg, age 92, died peacefully on November 10, 2021.   The daughter of Thomas A Murphy, Jr. and Mary Veronica Murphy (nee Sheerin), Peg was born in McAdoo, PA and raised in Philadelphia.

After high school, she moved to Washington DC and received her Nursing Degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing.  She met and married her loving husband, Harold D. Rose, MD, and after a short stay in Kansas, they landed in their permanent home in Milwaukee.  Peg and Harry raised their four children with warmth, love and laughter while living on the Woods Veterans Administration grounds, then in the Story Parkway neighborhood.

Peg loved watching sports, especially when her kids or grandkids were playing.  She enjoyed NCAA men’s basketball and her favorite Marquette Warriors and Green Bay Packers.  Some of her best memories came when her “luck of the Irish” blessed her with NCAA lottery tickets for four Final Four Tournaments.

She found joy in other activities as well, including her family’s genealogy, gardening, playing bridge and Florida beach vacations.  Her love of Waterford Crystal led her to be a proud co-founder of one of the first estate sale groups in Milwaukee, Homestead Handlers.

In 1995, she built a cabin on Trout Lake in Boulder Junction, WI.  Peg found peace in Up North moons and starry nights, naps on the pier and an occasional brandy Old Fashioned with Sweet.  Her cabin was her happy place.

Peg will be remembered for her unconditional love of and absolute pride in her family, her courage and ability to embrace life to its fullest, and her fun and adventurous spirit.  She will be greatly missed, but she left us with full hearts and loving memories.

Peg is preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Rose MD, her son Robert “Bob” A. Rose, her son-in-law Robert “Rob” G. Heckel, her parents, and sister, Katherine Devney and brother, Thomas Murphy.  Peg is survived by her children - Mary Ellen Heckel, Dan Rose, and Therese Rose (Tom Geyer), as well as her grandchildren Gretchen (Rob Merkel), Dan (Ivonne Arriola), Tom (Erica Mignogna) and Rob (Katie) Heckel, and Kate (Jason Ulbrich) and John Geyer.  She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Bella Eells, and Natalie and Travis Heckel, her sisters Rosemary May, Eileen Kuntz, and Regina Burgess, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday December 3, 2021 at Gesu Catholic Church, 1145 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI.  Interment will be held at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington DC.
