Margaret Mary Gadsby, 66, passed away in Oconomowoc, WI surrounded by family on Friday June 11, 2021. Margaret, “Margie”, is survived by her husband Peter, three daughters Andrea, Brittany (Todd) Karmes, and Katrina, grandchildren, Marcus Martinez, Connor and Olivia Karmes, siblings Mary T Bernacchi (“Terri”), Michael Hawbaker, Paul (Colleen) Hawbaker, Agnes (Randall) Heckman, James (Tammi) Hawbaker, David (Kay) Hawbaker. Jane (Wally) Sparks, Julia Bastin, Elizabeth (Chuck) Veillon, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joan (nee Miller) and Lowell Hawbaker, sister Anne Marie, and brother Jean-Marie.
Margaret was born in Decatur, Indiana on August 27, 1954, the oldest child of 12 to Joan and Lowell Hawbaker. As the oldest daughter of a marine family, she moved many times throughout her childhood, eventually settling in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She attended St Joseph High School, followed by college at Mount Mary in Milwaukee. While a Junior in college she met the love of her life, Peter Gadsby. Margaret and Peter married June 2, 1979. Their adventures began after Peter and Margaret graduated from college and pursued Peter’s successful biomedical engineer career to Ohio, New York, Wisconsin, Washington, Georgia, Massachusetts, Colorado, Michigan and finally back to Wisconsin.
Margaret’s proudest accomplishment was raising three daughters with her husband and later taking care of her grandchildren. Margaret loved her family with all of her heart and was the happiest when she was surrounded by her large family. She rejoiced anytime she was able to see the entire family, especially the children. Margaret had a strong faith in God and worked to instill that in her children. She adored the daily family rosary with pure devotion and worked to never miss a day. She was involved in causes that supported her social and religious beliefs.
A wake/remembrance will be held on Friday, June 18, from 5-7:30 pm at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, 121 S Cross St, Oconomowoc, WI.
Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, June 19 at 10:00 am at Saint Jerome Catholic Church, 995 S. Silver Lake St., Oconomowoc, Wi 53066. Private family interment at All Saints Cemetery in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin at 2:30 pm on Saturday June 19.
