Richard "Dick" Hanson
March 16, 1933 - February 5, 2021

Richard “Dick” Hanson

Of Vernon, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2021 at the age of 87.  He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (nee Jacobs) of 64 years.  Loving father of Bryan (Lisa) Hanson, Linda (Brian) Moore, and Lori Cruthers; proud grandpa of Keith, Melissa, Angie, Kassie, Matt & Shane and 8 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son John Hanson, and his parents George & Ella.

Dick was a man of many talents and hobbies. But his greatest passion was his love for his wife Barbara and his family. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 139 where he was a heavy equipment operator until he retired. He grew up in Bay View near Lake Michigan, where his love of fishing began. After he retired, he would fish Lake Michigan with Barb multiple times a week, being on the lake before the sun came up. This lead to his involvement in “The Great Lakes Sport Fisherman” club.  He was very active in many aspects of the club. In 2006, Dick & Barb were the recipients of “The Margaret Berendt Award” for their tireless work in the club. He was a member of the Board of Directors from 2010-2014.  When Dick wasn't out fishing, you would find him outside taking care of the lawn, in the garden and taking care of his apple trees that he cherished.   Come winter you could find him in the basement making wooden toys for the grand kids along with other projects he would make, painting beautiful scenes on bottles & hand saws (you couldn't tell that he was color blind by his beautiful paintings). In the evening you could always find him in his favorite chair with a good book in hand.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12 at Vernon Ev. Lutheran Church (S90 W27550 National Ave. Town of Vernon) from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 NOON.  Burial will follow at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Mukwonago. In lieu of flowers, donations to Vernon Lutheran Church.
