Gene F. Hollenberger of Mequon joined his Heavenly Father on Friday February 7, 2020. He was born March 9, 1930 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, son of his late parents Franklin and Ruth (Wittkopp) Hollenberger. One of 6 siblings growing up during the lean years of the 1930s, Gene learned the value of hard work and the importance of always supporting family.
After serving in the Air National Guard in Madison, Gene graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BBA in 1956. He married the love of his life, Sharon Ann Mullen of Madison, on October 11, 1958. Gene worked for 37 years at Ambrosia Chocolate Company in Milwaukee, where he was the VP of Sales for many years and traveled broadly during his career. Gene was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Glendale, WI for 50 years, serving in many capacities, including Head Usher, Finance Committee Member, and Church Elder. In retirement, Gene and Sharon came to love their time as snowbirds in Orange Beach, Alabama, and enjoyed summer trips to Door County, as well as being a part of their grandchildren’s lives.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Sharon, children Todd, Chris (Tina) and Sarah (Peter) DeYoung, and grandchildren Phillip, Elizabeth, Alexander, Samuel and Annaliese. Survived by loyal brothers Roy (Marge), Chuck (Nancy) and Frank (Janice), following his dearly departed sisters Joyce (Bruce) Burghardt and Kay.
