Clara Daniels
March 7, 1924 - February 14, 2019
        

Clara Jean Daniels, born March 7, 1924 died on February 14, 2019 in Oconomowoc at Shorehaven Memory Care.  She lived for many years at Shorehaven’s Lake Terrace, volunteering often.  Clara married Douglas (Doc) Daniels on June 29, 1946.  Clara was preceded in death by her husband, her father and mother, Peter Christian Nelson and  Ella Meyer Nelson, sister, Caroline Nelson Mehling, brothers, Charles and Ronald Nelson, sister-in-law Ellen Nelson, nephews Scott Nelson and Gilbert Mehling, niece, Jean Vergenz and special friend Harry A. Esrael. 

Clara is survived by her close friends Sandra Esrael and Peter Williams and family, special friend Charles Ritter and family, nephews James and Jeffrey Nelson, Arizona, great-niece Melanie Heimer (Bruce) and family, stepson and daughter-in- law, Donald and Barbara Daniels, step daughter-in-law Judy Daniels, Everett (Sandy) Vergenz and other relatives. 

Clara’s father, Peter Nelson and brother, Frank, operated Nelson Brothers Grocery Store for many years on N. Main Street in Oconomowoc. For over 43 years, Clara loved her career with the Carnation Company in Oconomowoc and Sullivan, making many friends and retiring in 1986.   

She was a lifelong member of Dr. Martin Luther Church spending happy hours in worship services, educational groups and coffee hours, meeting special friend Harry Esrael at classes. She remained friends with Harry’s daughter Sandra Esrael and her husband Peter Williams.  Clara enjoyed the fellowship of other churches at the annual Christmas dinners held at St. Jerome’s as well as Senior Center events.

Clara was a proud member of OHS class of 1942, attending class gatherings at Lake Terrace Apartments, with Connie Rhodee Howden, a life-long high school pal.  Clara renewed another high school friendship in later years with close friend Dr. Charles Ritter and his large, welcoming family.

Thank you to Shorehaven Lake Terrace Apartment, Shorehaven Towers, and Shorehaven Memory Care staff for very kind and complete care of Clara.  Thank you to Allay Hospice staff for much end-of-life kindness to Clara.   

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Shorehaven Chapel, 1305 W Wisconsin Avenue Oconomowoc, from 10 am until time of the Funeral Service at 11 am. The Reverend Nicholas Slater will officiate.  Clara’s final resting place is Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.  Donations may be given in Clara Daniels’ name to Dr. Martin Luther Church or the Oconomowoc Senior Center.
