August ‘Augie’ Fortmann age 75 was called to his eternal rest on July 16, 2018 at his residence in Ixonia, WI. August Vernie Fortmann was born on November 6, 1942 in Summit, Wisconsin to Raymond and Dorothy (nee Walker) Fortmann. He was baptized at Saint Matthews Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc. He graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 1961 and enlisted in the Air Force. Augie then married his childhood friend and soulmate Donna Schilberg on September 13 of 1964 and they were blessed with two children, Brenda and Craig. He then retired from the USAF as a Staff Sergeant in 1969. 

Augie spent time working at Peterbilt in Waukesha where he retired from in 2005. He was a lieutenant with the Oconomowoc Fire Department and EMT for 24 years as well as being a devoted member of the Ixonia Lions for 20+ years and a new member of the Oconomowoc Lions. Serving as district governor from 2007 to 2008 and Council Chair from 2010 to 2011 for the State of Wisconsin Lions. In his spare time, Augie enjoyed the outdoors and teaching his children and grandchildren many things about hunting, fishing and sharing his passions he had with them. Augie touched the hearts of many in his community and was loved by all who knew him. Also, a member of Ashippun Sportsman Club and Mended Hearts.

Augie survived by his loving wife Donna (nee Schilberg), daughter Brenda (Roger) Hoeft of Ixonia, son Craig Fortmann of Watertown, honorary son Bill Irish of Maysville, KY, grandchildren Dustin (Amanda) Hoeft, Nicole Schroeder, Devin (Bobbi Burgess) Hoeft, Nathan, Klair, and Kaden Fortmann, and great grandchildren Landyn, Brody, Tenley, and Tayah Hoeft, and Violet Fortmann. Siblings Raymond (Addy) Fortmann, Phyllis (Ken) Wolfgram. Sister in-laws Shirley (Ed) Wolf, Lois (Ed Mix) Fortmann, Barbra Wildes, along with many more family and friends. 

August is preceeded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy, brother Charles Fortmann, sister Vicki (Ewald) Moser, brother Dale Fortmann, brother Larry Fortmann. In-laws Rudolph and Clara Schilberg, and Leonard Wildes. 

Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the time of Funeral Service at 4 PM on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 210 E Pleasant, Oconomowoc, WI. Burial will take place the following day on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10 AM at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lion's Eye Bank of Wisconsin, St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, or donor's choice are appreciated.
