Of Mequon. Kay Vaughan died peacefully at home with family on June 14, 2018.  She was born in Milwaukee on July 6, 1918, to Frances and Hugo Kuechenmeister and grew up in Shorewood.  Summers were spent at the beloved family cabin on a quiet lake in the North Woods.  She graduated from UW-Madison in 1939 with a BS in Home Economics-Textiles.

She married James S. Vaughan, who was then in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, in 1942, and they spent WWII in Washington, D.C.  Her husband joined Square D Company after the war, and they moved 10 times, living in various cities in the U.S. and England, as her husband rose to a senior executive level and they raised their two children.  Kay was a great wife, mother (best in class Cub Scout, Brownies, and Girl Scout troop leader), and friend to all she met over the years.  She had special interests in birds, flowers, and gardening and she loved to read.  Oh, how she loved to read.  Kay was predeceased by her loving husband and daughter Frances and is survived by her son James (wife Roberta).  Her son reports that Kay made the world’s best chocolate chip cookies.

Private family services will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the School of Human Ecology, UW-Madison would be appreciated (https://sohe.wisc.edu/).
