We are grateful for the time we have shared with Joe. Being in private practice as a psychotherapist, Joe and I coordinated counseling services for folks in need especially engineers. And Michael enjoyed whole heartedly his time over a beer with Joe as well as active participation together in Paranet. Joe supported Michael throughout his career. A good friend and trusted confidant, we will miss him dearly. His playful way and honest truth telling lives on within us. With love, Patty and Michael Marchant

Kate and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss.
Joe was one of the most positive people I met through St. Jude. I remember him always saying yes to volunteering for the Men of Saint Jude Casino night. He always made me welcomed at St. Jude. I remember him telling me that he felt like he was in a night club after hearing me cantor at mass.
I remember what a great father he was. During a bowling outing with the boys Danny just made a strike and Joe said " Just give a handshake to the center pin and you'll get a strike every time."
( slightly embellished .. it's been a few years.)
Joe .. bless you for all you have done to make this world better.

Dear Meloy family,
I'm sending each of you all of my love. Your dad was truly a legend. I feel so lucky to have had him as a coach, a friend, and an always welcomed guest stopping by on his way home from work. There was never anyone who would give such honest and much needed advice as Joe Meloy. I know my dad was at the front of the line to welcome him on the other side. You all will be in my heart.

Dear Kate & family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you upon the passing of Joe. I have fond memories of Joe, you Kate and your family.
Joe brought much love, compassion and warmth to many. He always was ever so gracious to my sons and me. He truly embraced the message of the Gospel with his interactions with his family, friends and the MSOE educational community.
It is our faith that summons us to believe that Joe’s “life is simply changed, not ended.” I hold you in prayer.
In the Risen Christ,

I have such great memories of your dad from over the years, from our fun at the Harp to talking golf to seeing him in the morning at the Starbucks in the village on my way into work. I’ll be thinking of you and will keep your dad and his family and friends in my prayers.

God needed help with his golf game. What a guy. I was on the MSOE golf team in the 80’s. Still some of the best memories of my life.

Joe was indeed the founder and tireless advocate for all things related to the mental health needs of MSOE’s students; needs that were virtually unknown in the mid-1970s but often continued to be denied or remain untreated for years later and even to this day. Joe was also an incredibly compassionate, witty, and most helpful colleague and resource at those times when I had absolutely no clue on how to deal with a troubled student. He also built and developed an equally competent and compassionate staff that served our MSOE students, often silently but immensely. A somewhat unfortunate but most understandable byproduct of Joe’s work, and that of his staff, is the sacred trust of client-therapist confidentiality. Meaning and simply, many of Joe’s most significant contributions – the helping and serving of seriously struggling students – remain mostly sealed and known only to those whom he helped. Rest in peace, dear friend, as you taught me much as well.

Joe and I met as freshmen at Marquette High 61 years ago. We became part of a group of great guys who are still in contact all those years later. (And spouses, I should add.) Joe and I took separate paths in our careers but never lost touch. His obituary very aptly describes a guy who never met somebody who didn’t ultimately become a friend. To say that he will be missed is too trite. Old friends like Joe are rare and losing him is a huge loss. Nancy and I wish Kate and the entire Meloy family peace in the coming days and hope the memory of countless fun times will sustain them.

My condolences to you and your family. Joe was a fixture in my life as a student-athlete at MSOE, and working alongside Joe and the administrators on the Hall of Fame and beyond after graduating. I only wish I could have golfed a round with Joe later in life. Oh the stories and laughter we could have shared.
