Loving husband, dad, and grandfather went home to the Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2016. John was born in Pewaukee spending his youth on Pewaukee Lake before moving to Okauchee while in grade school. He graduated from Oconomowoc High School and Milton College. He worked as a surveying engineer.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Mary, children Eric and Anne, son-in-law Brad and grandchildren Connor and Matthew, who were the loves of his life, and his hunting companion Lucy. John was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Josephine Schmeling and his brothers Edward Jr, Thomas, and James.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12 PM NOON on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, W359 N5848 Brown St, Oconomowoc, WI.
