Gerald "Jerry" Sauer
October 29, 1931 - September 28, 2014

Gerald Sauer of Plymouth, WI, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2014, with his significant other by his side following a lengthy illness.  His family would like to thank Doctor Sajdak, Hospice Advantage, and all the wonderful hospice volunteers for their support during his courageous battle with his illness.

Jerry was born on October 29, 1931, in Milwaukee, WI, to Walter and Bertha (Younker) Sauer.  He graduated from Washington High School in 1950, and he was drafted into the US Army on his 21st birthday.  He met and married Dolores (nee Mortensen) in 1953, and together they had and raised five children.  Following his honorable discharge from the armed services, he returned to Wisconsin to embark on a career in insurance.

He joined State Farm in the late 1950’s, working as an agent serving the Milwaukee area.  He loved helping people with their insurance needs, serving State Farm for nearly 60 years right up until the time of his death.  He won numerous service awards, including making the prestigious “Millionaire Club” several times.  During his career, he had the fine fortune to meet and work for years with his talented and dedicated assistant Lorie Martz.  He was always grateful for all of her assistance, particularly in the past few years as he fought his health issues.

Dolores passed away in 1993 after more than 40 years of marriage.  Jerry eventually overcome his grief and met Luana (Loni) Kuhlman, with whom he spent the final 19 years of his extraordinary life, adding even more loving family to Jerry’s extensive clan.

In his free time, Jerry loved spending time with family and friends, especially outdoors.  He enjoyed hunting and camping, and he loved taking care of his acreage in Plymouth.  He loved to dine at restaurants, and his corner booth at the Depot will never be the same without his presence.

He is survived by his partner of 19 years Loni; a son Kerry Sauer; daughters Sheryl (Mike) Abbott, Diane (Mark) Waggoner, Lori (Don) Gibowski, and Holly (Rich) Gibowski;  8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; his partner’s two children and her 5 grandkids who called him grandpa; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dolores; his sister Rosie; and his brother Charles Sauer.

Visitation for Jerry will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the funeral home, from 4 PM until time of Funeral Service at 7 PM. Private entombment at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions appreciated for a fund to be established at a later date.
