John W. Humphrey

John W. Humphrey, 95, of Oconomowoc, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016. John was born on June 11, 1920 in Ixonia to Dan and Alice (Moran) Humphrey. He was united in marriage to Myra Maloney on May 14, 1945 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Okauchee. Together they ran the family dairy and hog farm in Ixonia and raised four children.

   In his early years, John played baseball and was on the “Pure Oils” 1938 Championship Team. John raised purebred Hampshire pigs and traveled throughout the state to hog shows and sales with his family. He volunteered as the Maple Street Hustlers 4-H Club leader for many years and served on the board of directors for both the Ixonia Farm Service and Wisconsin Livestock Breeders Association. Off the farm he worked for the Agriculture Soil Conservation Services of Jefferson County and enjoyed roasting pigs for friends and neighbors.

  He was a lifetime parishioner of St. Jerome Catholic Church where he was an usher, member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul volunteer and was a former sexton for St. Jerome’s Cemetery.

   He enjoyed farm life, home cooked meals, polka music and joking around. He loved fishing, hunting, flower gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family and friends. He traveled to Australia to see Cheryl (AFS daughter) get married, and traveled to Alaska.

   John is survived by his wife Myra, his children; Joanne (Al) Daly of Covington, KY, David (Mary) Humphrey of Ixonia and Ellen (Kit) Deubler of Two Rivers, WI. He was the proud grandfather of Nathan (Debbie) Daly of Highland Heights, KY, Chris (Jennifer) Daly of Covington, KY, Paul (Megan) Humphrey of Baraboo, WI, Monica Humphrey of Ixonia, Kaylynn Humphrey of Fond du Lac, WI and Alicia Humphrey of Audubon, IA, and great-grandfather of Aidan and Jake Daly. He is further survived by his sisters; Frances Richter of Watertown, WI and Helen Neitzel of Horicon, WI. John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim Humphrey, sister, June Eberle, and daughter, Clare Kapur. A visitation will be held at St. Jerome Catholic Church (995 S. Silver Lake St. Oconomowoc, WI. 53066) on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jerome Cemetery Fund or St Jerome’s St. Vincent de Paul Society.
