Ina Mae (Grindrod) Hoeft was a lifelong resident of Oconomowoc born Jan 4, 1922, and died November 21, 2015. She was the daughter of George E. Grindrod and Marguerite Madison. Her husband, Dr. Irwin F. Hoeft, whom she married October 12, 1943, and a brother Paul Grindrod survive her. She is also survived by her children: Dr. Thomas G. Hoeft (Lyn Hoeft), Wendy (Hoeft) Paton (Dr. David Paton), and Dr. Mary Lee (Hoeft) Vance (Eric Vance); grandchildren Dr. Suzy (Hoeft) Dando (Todd Dando), Thomas J. Hoeft (Dr. Olga Kuchar), Peter Hoeft (Emily Hoeft), Jenny Paton, Justin Paton; great grand children: Madeline Dando, Jackson Dando and Natalie Hoeft and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mae was an active member of the Waukesha County, and Oconomowoc community, playing music, teaching and mentoring new musicians, and supporting the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the UW Madison Orchestra, where she earned her undergraduate degree, played oboe in the Waukesha County Band, American Legion Band of Oconomowoc and organ for the First Baptist Church of Oconomowoc. She also was a member of the “wrecking crew,” session musicians that provided back-ups for recording artists; and taught music lessons well into her 90’s, teaching students piano, oboe, English horn and organ. In addition, she was an active member and supporter of the Oconomowoc Music Club, American Baptist Women’s Association, and the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also served as a hospital volunteer and Girl Scout leader.

She loved all animals, especially dogs and cats, and of course kittens and puppies. Wherever she went, she made it a mission to talk to any dog or cat she encountered. What also brought her great joy and happiness was having a house full of family and friends. She loved company at any time, and was happiest when hosting international students, and feeding family, friends and other guests.

Visitation will be Monday, November 30, 2015 from 12 NOON to 1 PM at Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home at: 121 Cross Street, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Service will start at 1 PM, with interment following at Oconomowoc Lake La Belle Cemetery. Refreshments will be served following the interment at First Baptist Church in Ixonia, N8340 North St.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mae Hoeft may be sent to: Watertown Humane Society, 418 Water Tower Court, Watertown, Wisconsin, 53094.
