Of Mequon. Passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on Thursday July 30, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Cherished and loving husband for 50 years of the late Mary. Devoted father of Amy (Thomas) Kuhns, Robert (Maritza) Zuege and Elizabeth (Derek) Sammann. Adoring grandpa of Benjamin, Peter, Elizabeth & Paul Kuhns, Tyler, Blake & Cooper Sammann and Robert, Matthew & Joshua Zuege. Preceded in death by his sister, Joan Rounds. Further survived by other relatives and many dear friends. 

Memorial service Thursday August 6, at 11:00AM, at OUR SAVIOR EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6021 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Whitefish Bay, Reverend Michael Henrichs officiating. Lunch reception to follow at the Town Club, 7950 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Private family interment Highland Memorial Park. Visitation Wednesday August 5 at the FUNERAL HOME from 5:00PM until 7:00PM. If desired, memorials to the American Cancer Society appreciated. 

Born in Milwaukee on Thanksgiving Day in 1929 to Robert and Meta Zuege. Graduated from Washington High School, Marquette University and Marquette Medical School. He played football in high school and college under Coach Lisle Blackbourne. After graduating from medical school, Robert married Mary E. Maurer and spent two years as a physician in the U.S. Navy. His lifelong passion was practicing medicine as an orthopedic surgeon with Blount Orthopedic Group. He performed the first total hip replacement in Wisconsin in 1968 and remained a leader in his field. He was beloved as a caring compassionate surgeon, colleague and friend. In his free time he most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His interests included fishing, football, tennis and travel.

Robert will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is now reunited with his wife Mary and in the loving arms of his Lord.
