Louis "Louie" Turner

Passed away peacefully in his home on Wed. July 22, 2015, his hand in the hands of his beloved wife Shirley. Louis was born on Aug. 4, 1926 in Wilkes Barre, PA and was the son of Mary (Egle) Turner and John Turner.

Louie considered himself to be an ordinary man but he was extraordinary in how he lived his life. He served his country on a battleship in the North Atlantic during WWII, worked as a mechanic/steamfitter for Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee and Strohs in Longview, Texas. In his earlier years he worked a second job as a longshoresman for the Milwaukee Clipper to support his young growing family. Louie lost his first wife Arline at a time when in most marriages a couple can appreciate and enjoy the family they've worked hard to raise. But as he did with life's challenges up to then and beyond he moved forward, keeping his positive attitude. Then he met Shirley. They married; together they blended his family and hers and enjoyed 33 years of adventures.

Louie loved life and he loved all his family unconditionally. He took delight in cheering his grandchildren on in their countless athletic and life events. He enjoyed a good game of cards, a lively argument about today's politics, soaking a fishline in the lake, excursions to Potawotami and vacations with family in the northwoods. He was an avid bowler and was still doing so well into his 80s. Up through two years ago Lou and Shirley could be found at Sussex Hamilton High School assisting students in the Media Center. Louie was a member of American Legion Post 406.

Louie will be deeply missed by Shirley (nee Kropidlowski); his children Tom (Sally) Turner, Greg (Jackie) Wanner, Ken (Lynn) Wanner; grandchildren Nicole (Robert) Hanosh, Paul Turner (Sarah Sleider), Bryan (Kaitlyn) Turner, Amanda Turner, Katelynn Turner, Eric (Lauren) Wanner, Christopher (Beth) Wanner, Jacob (Amy) Wanner, Julie (Brandon) Bissonnette, Jay (Tiffany) Wanner and great-grandchildren Abilene and Eleanor Hanosh, Neveah Jackson, Chase, Nolan, Brayden and Tenley Wanner, Lucas Wanner, Casey Bissonnette, Alayna and Bryce Wanner, and one more grandchild about to be born. He is further survived by extended family in the Milwaukee and Wausau areas and leaves behind many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Arline (nee Krause) Turner, sons John and Robert Turner and brother Eugene (Joan) Turner.

The family expresses their appreciation to doctors and staff at Community Memorial Hospital and to Horizon Home Hospice; especially Megan, Lee Ann and Linsey for their compassionate care of Louie.

Visitation for Louie Is Friday July 24 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home with a memorial service at 7pm. Private Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery, Milwaukee.

Heaven has claimed a very special angel. We miss you Louie...
