Janis H. Fitzgerald
October 27, 1935 - May 18, 2015

(nee Carrel).  Born to Eternal Life on Monday, May 18, 2015 at age 79. Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jerome. Loving mother of sons Michael and Patrick; daughters Anne (Tim) Bentley, Jane (Steve) Schultz and Mary (James Greear).  Proud grandmother of Sarah, Catherine and Erin Bentley; Madeline and Jeromy Schultz.  Further survived by other relatives and friends.

In 1969, with a high school education and five young children at home, Jan started her own business and became the first independent retailer of school uniforms in the state.  She was active in the St. Pius X parish community and the Kiwanis Club of Wauwatosa.  Her tireless care of her husband Jerry at home for several years as his health deteriorated at the end of his life was but one example of her devotion to both her faith and her family.

Most importantly, Jan instilled in her family an appreciation for what God has given you, an intolerance for injustice, a compassion for others, and the need to speak up to right that which is wrong.   She tried to live her Catholic faith and not just observe it. When she spoke of following your own path in life, and not the expectations of others, her children and grandchildren did not need to look beyond her own example.  Her spirit and vitality were not diminished at all by Alzheimer's, and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family held a private service and burial.   Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association-Greater Wisconsin Chapter or Zilber Family Hospice are appreciated.
