Marcella May Smith (Mutzie) was given eternal life on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 with loved ones by her side. Marcella was born October 8, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Clara and Ralph Davis.
She attended Pius XI High School in Milwaukee. Following high school, Marcella worked in the banking industry. In her youth, she loved fishing, riding horses and going to boxing matches.
On October 30, 1948, she married the love of her life, Patrick E. Smith (Pat) at St. Bernard’s in Wauwatosa.
Marcella, an 85 year-old devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, is survived by 10 of her children- Colleen Crook, Patricia Smith, Nancy Braatz, Mary Richter, Dan Smith, Judy Faust, Katherine Smith, Maureen Smith, Margaret Smith and Bridget Riemer.
And 17 grandchildren:
Sean (Anmarie) and Jason Crook, Amie and Lissa Richter (Jeff Johnson), Jacqueline Lorenzen (Nick) and Elizabeth Faust, Amanda Smith, Keaghan and Danny O’Reilly (Shannan), Zachary Smith and Lily Schmidt, Michael and Patrick Braatz, Nicholas Smith, Jacob, Kate and Anna Reimer, and Johnny Alberts.
And 6 Great-Grandchildren:
Ella, Katelyn and Ava Crook, Marley, Dublin and Kaplin O’Reilly.
Son-In-Laws, DuWayne Crook, Tim Richter, John Braatz, Dennis Schmidt, Kyle Kealty, Dave Reimer, Brian Alberts and daughter-in-law Kandi Bahr-Smith.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and relatives.
Marcella was preceded in death by her loving husband, Pat; her mother, Clara; her father, Ralph; her step-father Martin Porubcan; and her two young sons, Michael and Peter, and son-in-law Robbie Faust.
Marcella was a resident of the Oconomowoc area for over 65 years. She was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Okauchee and its Alter Society. This was her home parish where her children went to school.
She loved watching and being a part of her children’s and grandchildren’s varied activities. Marcella’s other interests included traveling, horse racing, geo-politics, volunteering, and sports, especially watching her beloved Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. An avid and passionate reader, she belonged to various book clubs over the years.
Marcella was a welcoming and encouraging presence to her children’s many friends. She was a deeply spiritual person and a profound influence to many.
A funeral mass was held at St. Joan of Arc Church in Nashotah on April 25, 2015. Following the burial at St. Joan of Arc Cemetery, Town of Oconomowoc, the family gathered for a celebration of her life at Kuhtz’s General Store in Stone Bank- a family favorite.
Her spirit will live on in many and she will be thought of well and often.
