Chris and Connie,
The news of the passing of your Mother, Esther, my Aunt, put me with many different emotions and of course the first was sadness. Hours and a few days later after knowledge of and thinking about this happening, I realize this is something we all will eventually encounter. I can only hope to live as long as these Somers Sisters, Esther and Grace, but most of all have the Strength to live and endure the hardships of life in the declining years of our lives!
I have many fond memories of our younger years with your Mother and Family. Of course the most recent memories, with your Mom and My Mom out here is Arizona are not only the most recent to remember, but some of the most comical.
However, to enjoy the comedy, (reflection) of a very “delicate” situation, I would need a lot more space to write to explain the situation so I will try the “Readers Digest” version!
My Mom says…, sitting on the couch, “I wonder why Esther is not up, (awake) yet”! So, I checked in on Esther and low and behold…she is on the floor in a “seizure” type event. Of course My Mom followed me into the bedroom and you must understand, (please visualize), what I had on my hands at that time!
I got your Mom some juice and everything turned out fine!
Another: I cannot go to the grocery store and buy a loaf of bread without remembering Esther. Of course Esther and Grace went to the grocery store with me to buy groceries. Your Mom told me NOT to buy that “plain white bread” because “it does nothing for your” and I was instructed what breads to buy! Every time I go to the store and get bread….guess “who” is on my shoulder giving me advice?
I know your hearts are aching at this time. And Time does settle a lot but not everything. It is the memories that heal what time does not!
David
