I am very sad to hear of this shocking news about John. He was a great colleague at Ohio State Department of Statistics for 13 years and I have many good memories of social and professional interaction with him. John had a significant impact on the Biostatistics graduate program at Ohio State, and on the Cancer Center as well as the College of Medicine for over a decade. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues here at Ohio State.

I am deeply saddened to learn of John's passing. I will always respect his intelligence and willingness to help whenever asked. The research at the CIBMTR was so much stronger because of his input. He will be missed.

Dr. Klein was my thesis advisor, but he was more than a professor to me. He taught me how to think like a real statistician. He showed me the kind of disipline a statistician should process. With all these, the most important thing I learned from him is the importance of the application of a statistical method/theory in real life. He is a role model on this and has influced me in my career since the day I started working as a statistician.
He will be greatly missed.

Dr Klein was a valued colleague and friend. He graciously helped me learn how to navigate complex administrative issues. His insights were practical and extremely helpful. His friendship was open and warm. I am very grateful that I had the pleasure of getting to know John over the past twenty years. He is very much missed.
