Lawrence "Larry" Whittow
February 11, 1927 - March 17, 2024

Larry was born in Milwaukee on February 11, 1927 and found peace after a long run of 97 years on March 17,2024.

Beloved husband of Mary for 65 years. Loving father of Scott (Kris) and Sandy (the late Mike) Kontowicz. The amazing grandpa to Ian and Trevor who he supported any chance he could. He was always interested in what his grandkids were doing.

He was preceded in death by his mother(Emily), brothers Robert(Shirley), George(Jeanne), Donald(Alice).

He is further survived by brother Wayne(Paula), and other relatives, who he was continually interested in hearing about.

Larry’s early jobs were working at his brother’s gas station and in the paint department of Steinman Lumber. He served as a Sgt. in the Army at Fort Bliss from 1952 to 1954. He met his wife Mary at Steinman Lumber and they married in 1958 and created a home on Milwaukee’s north side.

They raised Scott and Sandy and spent time sharing their interests of bowling and dance respectively.

Larry retired from the Wisconsin Gas Company in 1989 after 27 years.

For a large part of his career he worked as a boiler man on a swing shift of 2 days 1stshift 2 days 3rdshift 2 days 2ndshift then off two days. He was a stellar example of work ethic. He continued his work career by working at Boston Store, Mecca as a Ticket Taker, The Laundry Basket and as an ambitious literature distributor during the elections of Wayne F Whittow.

He had a love of sports, especially the Packers, Badgers and Brewers and enjoyed family genealogy. If he had one hobby, it was entering contests. He was thrilled to show or share his winnings with his family. Even the smallest win, brought a smile to his face.

He will be missed for his humor, sincerity and his guiding example of how to enjoy and love your family. We really believe that after 97 years you would have said “That worked out good!”

Family will greet friends on Monday March 25 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, 10280 N. Pt. Washington Rd., Mequon, WI 53092. There will be no service held.
