Michael “Mike” Herman Schifflin, age 81, of Milwaukee, WI, passed away on March 19, 2024. Mike was born on December 2, 1942 in Birmingham, MI to the late John B. Schifflin and Lucile Irene Adams Schifflin. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Boyd Schifflin and infant brother Stephan Perry Schifflin. He is survived by two sisters, Janet C. Schifflin of Arden, NC and Linda R. Coyle (Jay) of Mt. Horeb, WI.
With “Fun all day” as his greeting, Mike was a people person, friendly with everyone, always offering a handshake and a wave while clutching the things he loved with the other hand: a notebook, a pen, a calendar, photos, and in earlier years, TV Guide – purchased at his favorite haunt- Walgreens! The Sturtevant, WI Train Station and Milwaukee Zoo were others.
Fun activities for Mike were shopping, bowling, bingo, and painting. For many years, Mike attended Bible Study at St. Margaret Mary and later joined the Special needs Sunday school at Falls Baptist Church. His pastor and teacher provided Mike enduring spiritual enrichment over years, including presiding at the graveside memorial honoring Mike’s parents, Jack and Lucy Schifflin, instrumental in the early formation of the Asheville, NC Irene Wortham Center.
The Schifflin family is grateful for Mike’s loving and dedicated caregivers, considered “family” throughout his life at Southern Colony in Union Grove, WI and his Group Homes- Hollingsworth House, Dungarvin and in 2021, Unique Unity, where some of Mike’s arts and crafts are displayed.
Adult Day Care added variety, order, motivation and fun for Mike on weekdays- formerly at St. Ann’s Center and in the last ten years at Catholic Charities- for every one of you who worked with Mike, we are forever thankful.
